To view Gion Matsuri Festival in a relaxed manner, the special viewing seat is recommended. Brochure and hat included. (Ato Matsuri, July 24th)

Gion Matsuri Festival is one of Japan's three biggest festivals which belong to Yasaka Jinja Shrine, and the representative of summer festival in Japan.
The festival lasts for about a month-long. It is famous for its long history, gorgeousness and large scale size throughout Japan.
The origin of the festival began by establishing 66 floats which is the same number of the provinces in Japan in those days to pray and get rid of the illness about 1,100 years ago.
The best highlight of the festival is the Yama Hoko Junko grand procession.

With making the procession in reverse order from Saki Matsuri, the procession of Latter Festival departs from Karasuma Oike.
It is designated as UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009.
Please make use of a reserved seat so that you can see the festival comfortably.

Q. Will the festival be held in the rainy day?
A. Yes. Rain or shine. We distribute a disposable rain jacket in case of rain.

Q. What time should I arrive at the seat?
A. Please arrive at your seat 30 minutes before the procession because a congestion is expected on the day of the festival.

Q. Can we eat at the seat?
A. Yes, you can. Please take all of your trash home with you when you leave.

Q. Is there something I have to know?
A. No parasols, no smoking. When you take photographs, please do not bother other people. In addition, please be careful about your physical condition against the heat.

Q. How long does the festival last?
A. About 2 hour from the head of the parade to the end.
